Based on an in-depth ethnographic study conducted among mixed families in Morocco, A Part of Us is an honest, visceral, and empathetic exploration of the unique experiences of families from diverse backgrounds. The documentary begins with a Moroccan-British-French family navigating transnational life between Meknès (Morocco) and Périgueux (France). Their story delves into themes of belonging and faith, with music serving as a vital link that unites their diverse backgrounds. Next, we meet a Moroccan-Cameroonian family. As Julio and Nora celebrate holidays and share everyday moments, their journey of love across cultures shines through, demonstrating how acceptance and unity can flourish within an extended family despite differences. An anonymous third-generation Moroccan-French-Kenyan narrator then reflects on racial identity within Moroccan society, discussing how historical slavery and colonization have shaped his sense of belonging. Finally, in Rabat, a Moroccan-Brazilian family shares their journey of love across faiths and cultures. Tatiana and Yasser discuss their early romance and the joys and challenges of raising children in a multilingual, multireligious household. This documentary is a warm exploration of differences, love, acceptance, and the intricate threads that connect us. It shows how love can transcend ethnic, racial, religious, and cultural boundaries.
