The documentary takes an observational and sensory ethnographic approach to capture the diversity of Vancouver’s Chinese community. By exploring individuals, families, and third-place environments like grocery stores, restaurants, and cultural centres, the film depicts the relationships that people have built with the city and each other. Vancouver's Chinese community, including Chinese-Canadians, constitutes 20% of the Greater Vancouver population. However, perceptions of the Chinese community vary widely. Chinese immigrants have been part of Canada's history since the late 1700s, contributing to the country's development in various ways. This longstanding presence has led to a rich tapestry of cultural influences that continue to shape Canadian society today. Despite facing challenges and stereotypes, the community has shown remarkable resilience and adaptability. This film aims to show the humanity, complexity, and diversity of the Chinese community, challenging stereotypes and fostering empathy. By highlighting personal experiences and daily life, it offers a platform for discussion and social change, encouraging viewers to recognise and appreciate the contributions and experiences of Chinese-Canadians.
