In the hills of northeast India, far from the mainland and mainstream consciousness, lies the Naga village of Tora. Years of neglect, combined with a long history of insurgency, have left basic civic amenities conspicuously absent. Seventy years after Indian independence, the villagers hear that electricity is finally on its way. They are cautious, having been disappointed too many times before. Khamrang, the village’s elder, watches with a skeptical eye, holding onto his true dream of seeing his people attain sovereignty. Jasmine, a pragmatic woman, sees potential in the arrival of electricity. But does electricity actually come to Tora? And if it does, does it bring the promised joy?
