The film follows Bahian peasant leader Joelson Ferreira on his journey to reclaim the memory of the 200th anniversary of the Second of July, a pivotal moment in Brazil’s independence that has been largely overlooked by official history. On that day in 1823, popular forces, composed mainly of Black and Indigenous people, expelled the Portuguese from the city of Salvador. For Joelson, the creator of the network known as Teia dos Povos, the Second of July serves as a catalyst for reflecting on the present and future of emancipatory struggles in Latin America.
