In Kyrgyzstan, a growing number of young people are preparing to migrate to Germany to work as nurses. A training program places them in elderly care facilities in Pirna, a small town in eastern Germany. “Why Germany, and why nursing?” they are asked when applying for the program.
A German filmmaker travels between the two countries, capturing how Germany is imagined from afar and how senior citizens in Pirna perceive their own care system. In both places, she meets people contemplating their futures and their experiences of growing old—individuals whose paths may one day cross in the small town of Pirna.
